Silas is scooting all over the house now. The other night, I was in the bathroom getting ready and he was in the living room, and he decided he would go on a hunt for his mama. I saw him come army crawling around the corner. He’s pretty fast too for having such a cumbersome crawling method.
He has 3 teeth – two on the bottom and one on the top with the other top front tooth starting to break through. He needs teeth because of his favorite past times is eating. He’ll eat any sort of table food that comes close to his mouth. I made chicken bog the other night and he loved it. Tracy fed him a bottle the other morning at around 7 and then fed him his breakfast at around 8. Just a few minutes later, Tracy got out the chicken bog pot to make himself a plate to take to work for lunch. When Silas saw the pot he went crazy!!!
Nursing Silas has become interesting. He still wants to nurse around 4 times a day, but he doesn’t want to sit still long enough to nurse. He looks around, twists his whole body around, scoots off my lap, plays with my hair, turns my head so he can touch my ears, and the list goes on. Although when I nurse him for the last time in the evening, right before bed, he usually sits still and just stares at me in between rubbing his eyes and trying to fight off the sleepys. It’s possibly my favorite time of day.
Things I can do:
Say mama, baba, dada
Scream if I need your attention
Eat a lot – my favorite food so far is homemade chicken and dumplings
Army crawl, though I am practicing getting up on all fours and rocking back and forth
Make kissing sounds
Give sweet, slobbery baby kisses
Eat puffs and mum mums all by myself
Launch myself from your arms, especially when the refrigerator is opened
I love the pool and the bathtub – splashing water everywhere is loads of fun
I love my big brother, he makes me smile
I like to sleep too, usually 10-12 hours at night and 2 naps during the day
Davis loves Netflix. His favorite show is Beyblade. His second favorite show is Phineas and Ferb. For a long time I wouldn’t let him watch Phineas and Ferb, but I recently learned that he had been watching it at Nana’s for quite some time. Somehow the “What happens at Nana’s, stays at Nana’s,” was forgotten and Davis let the secret slip, so I agreed he could watch it a little at home.
For the past several months, Davis has wanted Daddy to lay down with him at night, to tell him stories before going to sleep. This has worked out great for me because I have to put Silas to bed and it also gives me a moment of time to myself. However, for the past couple of days, Davis has asked that I lay down with him, because he wants to hold my hand. I would give up every bit of my alone moments to hold my firstborn’s hand. In just a few weeks he’ll be turning 5 and I know that the hand holding to go to sleep is going to be very brief, so I just want to take full advantage of it while I can.
Silas loves baths! He loves to slap the water and splash like a maniac!
Silas is still army crawling. It looks so cumbersome, dragging himself with one arm while pushing himself forward with one foot. He’s gotten really proficient at it. He loves chasing Davis all around the living room while Davis pushes the old metal Chinese Checkers game. He also recently learned to clap. His first clap was on our anniversary. Just like with Davis, at his 9 month visit, the pediatrician asked if he could clap and of course, he couldn’t. So, we worked on it for about a week and now he claps while eating, while being changed, even while nursing. I am pretty sure we practiced it so many times that he thinks he’s supposed to clap for everything. He has 5 teeth and his favorite thing to eat is chicken pot pie. He did not love risotto although I was sure he would. He does love broccoli and green peas. This boy is so happy. He laughs all the time. Interestingly, hiccuping elicits giggles every time. Silas loves Davis and laughs at him frequently for no apparent reason. This boy is the definition of sweetness. He is perfect in every way. We all just love him!
