I ate waffles for breakfast – prepared by my husband. He used my recipe and low and behold they turned out just as good as mine – only because I told him about the vanilla that I add that isn’t a part of the recipe. I may never make waffles again.

I had steak for dinner – again prepared by my husband. It was equally as good as the waffles. I may consider letting him prepare dinner once a week.

Patty and David kept our children Friday night. Tracy and I went on a much needed date. On Saturday we went out to breakfast at Eggs Up then went to Lowe’s and purchased lots of things to plant in the yard.

We realized that after not having our children for one night and one day that we had tons of energy. Even after working in the yard all day, we still weren’t tired.

Sometimes I think something is physically wrong with me because I am literally exhausted all the time. But after this weekend, I realize that it’s being a mother that is exhausting, not some physical ailment.

I am thankful that God entrusted me with these two perfectly sweet and wild and amazing people to teach and lead and yes, be exhausted by. I can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing.

We are on spring break this week. We have done virtually nothing. Today when everyone woke up – Silas at 4 AM, Davis before 6 AM, I asked Davis what he wanted to do today. His response was, “I want to play Candyland and build a fort.” So we played Candyland. I am pretty sure Davis cheated. He got very angry when I asked him about it. We stopped playing. Next, because I feel like we need to go somewhere away from the house since we are on spring break (a sentiment my son does not share might I add), we went to Tyler’s Produce and picked strawberries. Davis came out of the strawberry patch carrying a bucket full of strawberries, barefoot with mud up to his ankles. Silas was carried out with a strawberry stained chin and shirt. In the car we feasted on boiled peanuts, hoop cheese and crackers, and more strawberries of course. After a stop at Chick Fil A for lemonade and tea, we finally made it back home. After baths, we did build that fort and equipped it with a rooster for crowing, books for reading, and toys for playing. Both boys were giddy. Davis is now on his way to his friend Ayden’s house to spend the night. I’d say that all in all, it’s been a pretty perfect day!

Davis came home from school so excited today. They were celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in his class by setting a trap for a leprechaun. They used shamrocks and pennies in their trap. Apparently, the leprechaun did visit the room but did not stick around for the kids to see him (smart choice). Although while there, he did take all the shamrocks and pennies, destroy the room, and leave his footprints all up the walls and across the ceiling. Not only that, he turned all the water in the toilets green. With all the upheaval, I guess he felt he should leave some reward for the kids, so each one received a gold coin (made of chocolate). Davis was disappointed that he didn’t get to see the real live leprechaun but he did explain that leprechauns are much smaller than Silas – like Silas would be the size of a leprechaun’s father. When I went to his classroom at the end of the day, the whole class was snacking on cupcakes with green icing and green juice. Sounds like a perfect end to a long hard day of leprechaun hunting.

On a side note – somehow Silas got ahold of the gold chocolate coin while we were driving. This I did not know. Davis said very hesitantly, “Mom, something has happened to Silas and I am scared to tell you.” I frantically said, “You had better tell me or you will be in big trouble.” To which he responded, “I think you need to pull over.” I stopped the car and went around to find that Silas had the gold coin smeared all over his face, his legs, and hands. He was looking at me clapping and sucking his paci with chocolate spit oozing from underneath. He was having his very own leprechaun party right there in the back seat.

Silas Floyd has officially taken his very first consecutive steps. It happened in Columbia while we were in Charlotte shopping at the dreaded Ikea. Aunt Pat and Aunt Carol had been forcing Silas to practice walking for hours on end until finally he took more than 3 steps, 8 to be exact. Even through the grueling process, Silas still had a smile on his face and a spring in his step. Way to persevere Silas!

is there never an end to it? it plagues me all the time. i call myself a worrier. i worry that i have created a new worrier, davis. i worry about everything from illness to college funds. i fret over the big and the small.

right now silas is not well. he has an ear infection in both ears which we are waiting to see if it clears up on its own. i worry that he’s had it for a long time and it’s gone unnoticed by me. my dad wears two hearing aids which he has needed since he was very young. i worry that since silas isn’t saying words, that he is having trouble hearing.

i worry about davis too. i worry that i am not an attentive enough mom. i worry that i scold him too much. i worry about his future, will he be a follower?

then there’s the cumulative worry for both of them. it’s constant, daily. i worry that i should be at home with them instead of working even if it is only part time. i worry that i am not feeding them the right things. i worry that i don’t read to them often enough or do enough creative things with them. i worry about college funds and music lessons.

it’s overwhelming. it keeps me up at night. i say this as i am here writing at 1:39 AM.

i worry because i worry.

worry is a form of fear, distrust. it is sin. the dictionary actually says it is to torment oneself with cares and anxieties. a perfect definition – probably written by a worrier. it is torment…

the only solution, remedy, comfort is laying my cares upon Him. trusting that his plan is greater than mine. coming to understand that worry will not add one single hour to my life.

it’s during these times of worry that i find rest in phillipians 4:6-7

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus

Silas eats everything except beans – he promptly spits those out.

Davis eats mostly nothing except pretzels and peanut butter. We cooked hot dogs this week – the kind that are nitrate free. I bought these thinking that maybe we could have a dinner that Davis would enjoy. Once the hot dogs were grilled, Davis declared, “I HATE hot dogs.” He cannot explain to me when this extreme dislike began, but I think I know. A few weeks ago, Tracy told Davis that hot dogs were poison. Davis is very serious and believes anything his daddy says, so now hot dogs are on the DO NOT EAT list. I guess that’s not such a bad thing. And, he will still eat broccoli…as long as he has ketchup.
