Davis eats mostly nothing except pretzels and peanut butter. We cooked hot dogs this week – the kind that are nitrate free. I bought these thinking that maybe we could have a dinner that Davis would enjoy. Once the hot dogs were grilled, Davis declared, “I HATE hot dogs.” He cannot explain to me when this extreme dislike began, but I think I know. A few weeks ago, Tracy told Davis that hot dogs were poison. Davis is very serious and believes anything his daddy says, so now hot dogs are on the DO NOT EAT list. I guess that’s not such a bad thing. And, he will still eat broccoli…as long as he has ketchup.

I turned one this week.
So far, I can crawl, cruise on the furniture, say mama and dada, clap my hands, shake my head no, and eat, eat, eat.

I love to eat the following things ( in this order):
blueberries
strawberries
chicken – my mom says I may turn into a chicken
peas
apples
grapes
I refuse to eat sweet potatoes. I spit those out every single time.

I take two naps a day and I sleep all night. I don’t like when Mommy lays me down, but I quickly realize that I need sleep.

I love to play. I will play with anything so long as it’s not a toy. I really enjoy buttons, especially the ones on Mommy’s cell phone. Davis says I am calling my girlfriend.

I love going into the pantry. I also really enjoy opening and closing doors. My mom always worries that I am going to get my fingers closed in the door, but I am very responsible.

I love my big brother. I think he is so much fun. He runs into my room in the mornings when I wake up and jumps in the crib with me. He tickles me and makes me laugh a lot. He also takes me down the slide in the backyard. I could do that over and over.

I love Mommy and Daddy too. I love for them to carry me around when I point in a specific direction. They seem to be pretty crazy about me too.

Being a baby has been great, but I am really looking forward to my new one-year-old adventures.

Silas

I suppose he was either full or tired of eating whatever I was feeding him. He looked at me and shook his head. Later when someone tried to hold him, he shook his head. He also shakes his head when he knows he shouldn’t do something, like stick his finger in the electrical outlet.

Davis is figuring out the world. On Monday we went to the mall. After going to the Hallmark store, Davis needed to stop by the bathroom. I decided that since we were heading to Chick-fil-a next, we’d just go to the bathroom closest to our stop. That meant we had to pass other bathrooms. Davis pointed out that we had passed a perfectly good restroom. He had read the sign – well the pictures on the sign. Once we reached the family bathrooms, Davis pointed out that there was room where I could nurse Silas – “See mommy, that room has a sign with a bottle.” I love it. He’s beginning to notice the details and make sense of them, even without my help.

For a couple of months now, Silas has been army crawling. He has it perfected – one arm leading with the opposite foot pushing. Yesterday he officially began crawling. Obea witnessed the long crawling stretch, from the edge of the carpet leading into the kitchen, all the way to the bar stools. Once I got home though, he was back to his old faithful – the army crawl. The only time I was able to see him crawl was when I removed all his clothes except his diaper and placed him in the kitchen on the cold tile floor. He was more than happy to abandon his reliable mobility method and lift his belly up off the unpleasant tile. The real crawl lasted only about 10 seconds when Davis ran in, called Silas his pillow and shoved down to the floor. But alas, we know he can do it at least.

Davis turned 5 this week…a milestone birthday. Earlier this year we went to Disney to celebrate. Because of the trip, we planned to have a small party on his actual birthday. We ended up with around 30 people at our house. This was the first year I decided not to plan activities for the kids. So, they all just ran around and played and enjoyed being kids. Since Davis’s birthday is on Halloween, he always gets to dress up for the occasion. Earlier, he told me he was going to wear the brown paper bag from the Chinese restaurant over his head. That was going to be his costume. I was mortified, but Tracy forced me to just let him wear it if he wanted to. That lasted for about a couple of weeks. He then decided to be a mummy, which didn’t last long either. He finally settled on being a spy. I think he may have been heavily influenced by Phineas and Ferb’s pet platypus – Agent P, as well as a secret agent book that he checked out from the library. So, we all were spies. We had a whole array of guests, the pirate Jack Sparrow, Rapunzel, Mulan, a robot, a cat, a cheerleader, Obi wan Kenobi, Minnie Mouse, Sponge Bob Squarepants, a witch, and even an iPad. After playing and eating spider cupcakes and chicken nuggets, the whole gang went trick or treating followed by present opening. After everyone left, Davis was exhausted, but he had just enough energy left to pour out all his candy and count it. Fun times.

Silas is scooting all over the house now. The other night, I was in the bathroom getting ready and he was in the living room, and he decided he would go on a hunt for his mama. I saw him come army crawling around the corner. He’s pretty fast too for having such a cumbersome crawling method.

He has 3 teeth – two on the bottom and one on the top with the other top front tooth starting to break through. He needs teeth because of his favorite past times is eating. He’ll eat any sort of table food that comes close to his mouth. I made chicken bog the other night and he loved it. Tracy fed him a bottle the other morning at around 7 and then fed him his breakfast at around 8. Just a few minutes later, Tracy got out the chicken bog pot to make himself a plate to take to work for lunch. When Silas saw the pot he went crazy!!!

Nursing Silas has become interesting. He still wants to nurse around 4 times a day, but he doesn’t want to sit still long enough to nurse. He looks around, twists his whole body around, scoots off my lap, plays with my hair, turns my head so he can touch my ears, and the list goes on. Although when I nurse him for the last time in the evening, right before bed, he usually sits still and just stares at me in between rubbing his eyes and trying to fight off the sleepys. It’s possibly my favorite time of day.
